Mahmut TEKŻN
Director General & Chairman of the Board

Dear Colleagues,

It is known that, on the contrary to the stagnancy of the aviation sector in the world, its saturation in other words, the civil aviation sector in our country has a serious upward trend. It is also a known fact that this situation results not from the global factors of the sector, but completely from the dynamics of our country. In 2005, the number of passengers passing through the airports that are under the responsibility of the General Directorate of DHMI was over 54 millions. This is equal to the population of a middle scale country. Given the fact that the population in our country is around 70 millions, the magnitude of the number of passengers transported through airlines becomes more striking.

The Civil Aviation Sector in Turkey has involved in an incredible movement. This potential in our country and the technological developments in the aviation sector in the world points out to the fact that now, we have to "run" in this sector. In this regard, if we consider the two main functions of the General Directorate of DHMI, namely airport operation and aerial navigation services, as you already know, the official vision of the Organization is based on maintenance of the two functions together. DHMI, in line with the rate of change in the sector, has started the studies towards institutional vision and it rapidly continues its works on a roadmap that aims at "control" and
"supervision" in terminal operation and at the most modern and safest airspace in the aerial navigation services.
