The overall traffic increase in Turkish airspace during 2005 reached around 15%, well above the European
average. The chart below shows the evolution of traffic compared to previous years.
Traffic volume is higher in the summer period due to tourism activities, as seen in the graph. In Ankara ACC, daily traffic figures reached around 1500 movements/day during the Summer season (the busiest day of summer 2005 was 7 August, 2005, on which 1615 flights were recorded). In the İstanbul and İzmir ACCs, daily traffic figures reached around 1300-1400 movements/day during the summer season (the busiest day of summer 2005 was 7 August, 2005, on which 1550 flights were recorded).
It is expected that traffic demand will continue to increase in the following years. The graph below shows the
traffic evolution in terms of IFR flights per year, as forecasted by STATFOR for Turkey.
