DIRECTOR GENERAL KESKİN: "WE ATTACH GREAT IMPORTANCE TO TAKING LEADING STEPS IN ENERGY EFFICIENCY AND IMPLEMENTING SIGNIFICANT PROJECTS."

Chairman of the Board and Director General Hüseyin Keskin, in a social media post during the Energy Efficiency Week, January 8-14, expressed that DHMI has implemented significant projects in energy efficiency. In his post, Keskin stated the following opinions:

"As the State Airports Authority, adopting the 'Sustainable Environment, Sustainable Aviation' approach in all our activities; we place great importance on taking leading steps in energy efficiency and implementing projects aimed at this purpose in our environmentally friendly and passenger-friendly airports.

With auxiliary stations assisting air navigation, investments in renewable energy at airports, innovative technologies, and smart energy management practices, we not only protect our environment but also reduce our energy costs.

In airports and auxiliary stations assisting air navigation, in addition to the 5 Solar Energy Plants (SEP) and 4 Hybrid Generation Plants capable of producing electricity from both wind and solar energy that have been commissioned so far, we are also developing new projects for the use of renewable energy sources at all service points.

As part of increasing the use of renewable energy, we have completed the construction of solar energy plants with a total installed capacity of 3.5 MW at five airports. Our efforts to expand the implementation of Solar Energy Plants at all airports are ongoing."

We are undertaking the conversion of heating and cooling systems to operate with natural gas systems (LNG, LPG, CNG) that result in lower emission levels. To enhance energy efficiency in lighting, heating, cooling, and ventilation systems at airports, we are automating these systems and transitioning existing lighting systems, both inside and outside terminals, to LED.

As part of the project to convert vehicles serving at airports into electric vehicles, 15 units of TOGG electric cars have been integrated into the service fleet. Ongoing efforts aim to increase this number in the future.

With the activation of the Aircraft Fuel Hydrant System under construction at Antalya Airport, aircraft at parking positions will be refuelled through this system. This will significantly enhance apron safety, minimize vehicle traffic, and contribute to reducing environmental pollution.

We have successfully completed the "Climate Change Strategies Preparation Project" in collaboration with TÜBİTAK-MAM at Gaziantep, Erzurum, Ordu Giresun, and Muğla Milas Bodrum Airports. Through this project, "Climate Change Strategy Documents" specific to these airports were prepared, providing projections for carbon reduction initiatives.

At our airports, a project aimed at water conservation was implemented by collecting water used during the daily checks of ARFF (Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting) vehicles in the ARFF replenishment pool for recycling.

Within the framework of the Carbon-Free Airport Project, DHMI certified 50 airports in various levels of the Airport Carbon Accreditation Program, conducted by the Airports Council International (ACI) in 2023. As a result, DHMI became the Airport Operator Organization with the highest number of ACA Certifications globally placing Türkiye as the second country with the highest number of certifications flowing after France.

DHMI has committed to the "ACI EUROPE Airport Industry Net Zero CO2 Emissions (Scope 1 & 2) Pledge" by 2050. Additionally, we have endorsed the "Toulouse Declaration," the first public-private initiative approved by the European Council on February 4, 2022, supporting the goal of achieving net-zero CO2 emissions for European aviation by 2050.

We remain dedicated to working steadfastly for a cleaner and greener world.
